Derek was born and raised in the Swan River area of Manitoba.  He began working in public practice in 1991 after obtaining a Business Administration Diploma from Red River Community College.  While employed he commenced studies in the Certified General Accountants (CGA) program.  He subsequently earned his Certified General Accountants designation in 1997.  Derek became a partner at FPLS Accounting Group (Formerly Forrest & Company) in 2004.

Derek became a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada in 2015 by receiving his Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA, CGA) designation.

Derek’s practice consists of primarily servicing small business corporations and personal tax clients.
